Ludhiana’s Industrial Glow-Up: 200 MW Solar Push to Power MSMEs

Industrial units in Ludhiana are increasingly shifting towards solar energy in response to uncertainty in LPG supplies and rising fuel costs.

The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has partnered with a private firm to facilitate the development of solar power projects with a combined capacity of 200 MW for local industries. The initiative aims to address persistent energy challenges faced by manufacturing units in the region.

CICU President Upkar Singh Ahuja stated that the move is driven by ongoing disruptions in LPG availability and escalating energy expenses, which have significantly impacted industrial operations. He highlighted that industries—particularly MSMEs operating on thin margins—are grappling with high power costs and unreliable supply. Solar energy, in this context, offers a dependable and cost-effective alternative, ensuring long-term price stability and reduced operational expenditure.

The collective adoption model is designed to make renewable energy more accessible to small and medium enterprises by lowering installation costs through group-based implementation. In addition to reducing dependence on conventional fuels and volatile energy markets, the initiative is positioned as a long-term strategy to enhance energy resilience, improve competitiveness, and support sustainable industrial growth in the Ludhiana region.
